Marshon Ford – TE

Good things happen when Louisville gets the ball into the hands of athletic h-back, Marshon Ford. Don’t believe me, check this out.

On the season Ford has seven total catches. Of those seven catches, six of them were either for a gain of 15 yards or more OR a touchdown.

Notre Dame – 6 yards, 37 yards
Eastern Kentucky – 5 yards (TD), 5 yards (TD), 16 yards
Western Kentucky – 23 yards
Florida State – 48 yards

Considering those statistics, it makes sense why Scott Satterfield said in his press conference that they have to figure out a way to not only get the ball to Dez Fitzpatrick and the outside receivers but also to Marshon Ford. He said it plain and simple:

“Good things happen.”

Even with the one reception for 48 yards against Florida State, Louisville could have afforded to dump the ball down a bit more to their playmaking tight end – especially early on as Malik Cunningham struggled to get comfortable playing in the pocket.

The catches Ford has on the season tell us that when he gets the ball in his hands, he knows what to do with. Against a team like Boston College, who has been pretty bad covering the run this season, you know that play-action passing is going to be key to moving the ball down the field and testing the defense, which means there are going to be opportunities for Ford to get looks.

If he can take advantage of those and do what we’ve seen all season, it’ll go a long way in helping the Cards have a successful day in against Boston College.
