Louisville football faces Boston College in a battle that could define the two teams’ seasons for better or for worse.

If you are a Louisville football fan and on the fence about going to Saturday’s match-up against Boston College, allow me to persuade you.

Sitting at 2-2 on the year, the Cards’ season could still go in a number of directions. But, statistically speaking, Louisville’s best chance for a win comes this Saturday.

In the three weeks that follow, Louisville travels to No. 22 Wake Forest before hosting No. 2 Clemson and No. 23 Virginia – All of whom are in the race to win the ACC.

If Louisville drops one this week, the chances of them ending up 2-6 through eight games are high.

However, a win this week against a Boston College squad who has not played up to its expectations could give the Cards the confidence boost it needs.

Louisville has not beaten a power-five opponent since defeating Kentucky on November 25th, 2017, and has not beaten a conference foe since hosting Syracuse the week prior. That’s a long time. And though the Cards are favored in Saturday’s showdown, it is going to take a lot of mental fortitude for Louisville to get over that hump.

Scott Satterfield’s squad has exceeded expectations thus far because of how competitive they have been with teams of superior talent. Louisville went toe-to-toe with Notre Dame and mounted a huge comeback in its last game against Florida State. They also handled Western Kentucky in impressive fashion and put up their first shutout since 2013 when they blanked Eastern Kentucky.

There’s a lot to be excited about as the program is headed in the right direction, but don’t underestimate the impact a win would have. To finally get over the hump and end a nearly two-year drought against conference opponents would be massive.

That’s why Louisville football fans need to show up and be loud this Saturday in Cardinal Stadium.

There are still plenty of tickets left on second-hand markets for extremely cheap. Plus, Saturday figured to have the best tailgating weather of the year. Highs are in the 70’s, and if you get out to the lots early enough, you might have to bring a jacket.
