Louisville football game balls: Offense stars in win over Boston College
By Jacob Lane
Seth Dawkins – WR
Stats: 6 receptions, 170 yards, 1 touchdown
As if one receiver wasn’t enough, we add a second to the game ball party – and honestly, no one was more deserving than senior receiver Seth Dawkins.
Much like Dez Fitzpatrick, Dawkins has been awaiting his moment to shine throughout the first six weeks of the season. Scott Satterfield was very braggadocious about Dawkins throughout the summer and the skills he brought to the receiver and football team and unfortunately, not many opportunities were there for him prior to Boston College.
That changed in a major way on Saturday as Dawkins exploded for the biggest game of his career, totaling six receptions on seven total targets, 170 yards, and a touchdown. Time and time again, Dawkins found himself open against the Boston College secondary, and he took advantage each time.
Whether it was short passes over the middle to either pick up first downs or get the offense closer or the 59-yard touchdown or 77-yard gain, Dawkins play was crucial to the outcome of a must-win game for Louisville.
Louisville’s receivers were special on Saturday, but for me, there was nothing more exciting than the breakout play of Dawkins.
Dawkins was the odd-man-out last year with the struggles at quarterback when it comes to “production” from the receiver position, and it carried over unfortunately into the beginning of the 2019 campaign.
The senior captain demonstrated his willingness to put the team first and continue to do and say all the of the right things while he waited for his moment and finally on Saturday he earned it.
If Louisville’s top three receivers produce as they did Saturday this team has the potential to be a lot better than any of us originally thought. A lot will depend on the quarterback, but as we saw, if all three guys have someone to toss them the ball accurately, a lot of good can happen.
