The Louisville passing attack is back

The offense even before this Boston College contest has been much better than last season, mostly due to the rushing attack of Javian Hawkins and Micale Cunningham. While the running has been great, the passing attack had been lacking. Louisville figured it out on Saturday, with two different guys under center.

Micale Cunningham started despite rumors that he may be unavailable for the game as Jawon Pass missed his third straight game with a turf toe injury. He played and played very well, throwing for 443 yards and running for 43, including getting off to an extremely hot start.

Late in the third quarter, he was replaced by Evan Conley due to a knee/ankle injury. Cunningham did briefly return to the game before Scott Satterfield made the decision to stick with the freshman, but according to reports, he should be good to go against Wake Forest come Saturday.

Despite having zero power five offers outside of Louisville, Conley looked like a potential star at the quarterback position throwing for 140 yards.

He also engineered the final, game-winning drive for the Cards. A dangerous late fumble from Conley that was recovered by Louisville’s Tyler Haycraft almost completely changed the narrative on this one. But the Cards hung on, Blaton Creque came through from 41 yards, which is well within his range.

The performance at quarterback was impressive before that final drive. But I think it speaks volumes to where this coaching staff has our entire quarterback room, to be able to come through in a moment like that.

This game featured phenomenal play from the Louisville signal-callers. Neither of them threw an interception. Conley and Cunningham’s passing yards combined Saturday were just three away from tying Chris Redman for the most passing yards in a single game in school history. What a turnaround.
