Louisville football: Predicting the remainder of the 2019 schedule
50-50 games –
at Miami
November 9th
There are two real toss-ups at this point on Louisville’s schedule against teams that are really searching for answers but also have the talent to be able to piece together a complete game against a Louisville team with depleted depth.
The first of the two opponents in 50-50 games is Miami, who will host the Cards off of a bye week in November.
The Hurricanes are still trying to work out the kinks in year one under Mani Diaz. They began the season by taking a playoff contender in Florida to the wire, but since then have looked thoroughly unimpressive against power five opponents.
Miami has a potent passing attack and a really impressive run defense, but they have not been able to get out of their own way. Boneheaded mistakes cost them against an inferior Virginia Tech team and they barely got past Central Michigan in week four.
Weirdly enough, making the trip to Miami is never easy and I just think the Hurricanes pull out an ugly one at home to get their season back on track and potentially put them in line to make a bowl.
ESPN FPI: 27.8% chance to win
BRL prediction: Louisville 21, Miami 23
at Kentucky
November 30th
Kentucky appears to be back to being Kentucky again. The Wildcats somehow managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory once again against Florida this year, and have dropped three in a row in a downward spiral of a first half of the season.
Don’t be fooled, the Wildcats are still a very talented team, but they have been outcoached and outhustled thus far in SEC play.
UK’s quarterback situation will be something to watch. Both their starter and their back-up quarterback have been injured, and their two back-ups Wyatt Walker and Sawyer Smith have not been on the same page as their receiving core.
Louisville may come into this game with a lot riding on a victory, and it feels like the Cards match-up really well with the Cats.
Louisville’s ground and pound offense against Kentucky’s hapless air-raid should see the Cards come away victorious and Governors Cup back in Louisville where it belongs.
