Louisville football: The game plan for slowing down Wake Forest
Make the big play on defense or special teams
Sometimes when you’re facing a team that may be better than you on the road, you need a little bit of luck.
This Louisville defense had two key takeaways this past weekend against Boston College. A true takeaway by Monty Montgomery where he forced and recovered a fumble to swing the score of the game by a full touchdown and the Cardinal defense’s first interception of the season from Anthony Johnson.
Both of the players who wear the number 10 for Louisville have proven to be big-time playmakers. There’s Javian Hawkins, who we’ve already discussed, and then there’s defensive ace and returner, Rodjay Burns.
Burns already has a defensive touchdown this season against Western Kentucky. He is also the punt returner for the Cardinals. He found the end zone last season against Indiana State last year as the punt returner, so he’s beyond capable.
A key special teams or defensive touchdown would prove to be huge. The Vegas oddsmakers have the Cardinals as a touchdown underdog to the undefeated Demon Deacons. But it’s absolutely winnable, the Cardinals just have to go win it.
