Louisville football: Cards looking to secure huge commitment
By Alex Stengel
Another top target for the 2020 Louisville football class has officially de-committed, giving the Cards another potential recruiting flip at wide-receiver.
To the victors go the spoils. In the case of the Louisville football program, no team is riding more momentum after their first ACC road victory against a ranked team Saturday.
Fans were already pleasantly surprised from hearing the news of local high school star Jordan Watkins rescinding his commitment from Kentucky last Thursday, but the excitement has just begun.
On Wednesday, the younger brother of Louisville redshirt junior wide receiver Dez Fitzpatrick, Christian Fitzpatrick, officially announced he is reopening his commitment – and from all indications, Louisville has a great chance.
Louisville fans fell in love with Dez Fitzpatrick before he even stepped foot on campus, as his natural playmaking ability was on full display as a high profile high school recruit, and he was an instant impact receiver as a redshirt freshman in 2016. However, that same fan love for his older brother is also what made Christian’s initial commitment to Washington State over summer especially hard to swallow for Card fans.
But who could blame the younger Fitz?
An elite 6’4,” 215lb high school wide receiver wants the promise of plenty of touches and production at the next level. At the time, no one knew exactly how first-year head coach Scott Satterfield’s offense was going to look – but they knew running would be the focal point. The same cannot be said for Wazzu’s offense, as Coach Mike Leach operates one of the top passing offenses in the country.
And then Louisville’s season started.
A season that is blowing everyone’s expectations just six games in, exploding with one of the top offenses in the country, both on the ground AND through the air.
A season that is already guaranteed to double its win total from its previous one, securing its first ranked road upset in almost a decade and with six games left to play. All while the players, and staff alike are having a blast while doing it.
That’s a team guys want to be apart of – and it seems one of those guys will likely be Christian Fitzpatrick.
Over the last couple of weeks, we heard rumblings that the Louisville coaching staff was turning up the heat on Watkins and Fitzpatrick.
A week later, on the Big Red Louie Podcast, Dez and Christian’s dad confirmed that the younger Fitzpatrick would be visiting again one more time, and his trip to Louisville would be his only remaining visit.
The writing appears to be on the wall now. Since his de-commitment Wednesday, Fitzpatrick has received 100% Crystal Ball predictions on 247Sports.com.
Fitzpatrick will still visit this weekend when the Cardinals host Clemson. With any luck, Louisville could walk away from the weekend with two elite wide receiver flips.
