Louisville basketball: Final takeaways from Cards clash with Bellarmine
Dylan Penn and Cobe Penny are going to be incredible under Davenport for years to come, and Pedro Bradshaw will develop into a great player
If you were wondering how Bellarmine would fare when they move to Division I next year while losing Cook and Weyer, a few guys stepped up last night that should certainly help them throughout the transition.
Dylan Penn particularly caught my eye, as the quick 6’3 guard played well on both ends of the floor. A sophomore hailing from Reitz Memorial High School in Evansville, Penn is going to develop into a star under Coach Davenport and he is already thriving in the system. He attacked the lane fearlessly and was able to score with ease throughout the game, putting up 12 points and only missing one shot.
Alongside Penn, sophomore guard Cobe Penny was hounding the Cardinal guards all night long and he will also become a great player under Davenport. Penny stepped up big for the Knights off the bench as Penn dealt with foul trouble. In 22 minutes of action, he scored 6 points and grabbed 4 rebounds, but his efforts on the defensive end cannot be overstated.
While it wasn’t on full display against Louisville, Pedro Bradshaw still has the potential to be a great player for Bellarmine, and I think he will show that as he develops and learns the system, as he’s only been at Bellarmine for a few months. Bradshaw dealt with early foul trouble, but he did a good job of keeping the ball out of the hands of sharpshooter Ryan McMahon, and he forced McMahon into tough shots when he did have the rock. Last night proved that Bellarmine really won’t have a problem adjusting to Division I next year, and I honestly believe they could beat a handful of D1 programs right now.
