Players To Watch:

Dwayne Sutton, Louisville F

The nation’s best glue guy absolutely dominated against Miami in multiple areas of the game. The Louisville native scored 16 points against the Hurricanes defense and he once again displayed his excellent ability to finish through contact and get physical for rebounds. Sutton only missed one shot and he drilled 4 of 6 free throw attempts, continuing to show fans that he has rebounded from the rough note that he ended last season on. Against the Penguins, Sutton should once again be able to dominate the glass and make a lot of second-chance opportunities for his team. The senior forward will use these games to continue to refine his skillset and make changes in areas that he sees fit.

Garrett Covington, Youngstown State G

The secondary scoring option for the Penguins, I believe that Covington will probably lead his team in scoring on Sunday because Darius Quisenberry will be getting a majority of the focus from the Louisville defense. Covington has a solid game from the perimeter and he can attack inside. He’s a 6’5 guard from Carmel, Indiana, and he averaged 10.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.1 steals last season. He scored 11 points on 4 for 7 shooting in the Penguins season-opening win despite only playing 19 minutes. Covington is one of the many veterans on this roster and he’s going to be heavily relied on in terms of helping some of his younger teammates survive the pressure that comes with playing against a powerhouse like Louisville.

Steven Enoch, Louisville C

The fanbase needs to be patient with Steven Enoch.  I saw some fans on Twitter saying that the coaching staff overhyped the progression that the senior center made in the offseason, but it was just one game and he was still recovering from the thigh injury that held him out of the Bellarmine exhibition. He had 11 points and 12 rebounds and only missed two shots. I don’t understand how fans were concerned with his performance, but that’s beyond the point. As he gets to 100 percent healthy, the 6’11 big man will continue to display the improvements that he made over a grueling offseason. Against Youngstown State, expect Enoch to record another double-double and he could certainly flirt with the 20 point mark. The Penguins don’t have a player on their roster that is taller than 6’9, so Enoch’s frame will pose a problem for them and he should take advantage of it.

Predictions:

Tristan Beckmann: Louisville 102, Youngstown State 57.

  • Cards hold the Penguins to less than 15 first-half points.
  • Jordan Nwora scores 30 points.
  • Aidan Igiehon performs a highlight play that gets the crowd buzzing.

Jacob Lane: Louisville 91, Youngstown State 55.

  • Samuell Williamson leads all scorers.
  • Jordan Nwora, Steven Enoch, and Dwayne Sutton all have double-doubles.
  • Fresh Kimble scores in double digits.
