Micale Cunningham

The quarterback position has been the biggest question mark within the Louisville program since Lamar Jackson’s departure. Last year, it felt like we never had the answer. This year, at least for the first half of the season, that remained the same. Jawon Pass played games one and two, Evan Conley has had some keys moments, but Micale Cunningham has been and is the man for this team and it’s been proven.

After his performance against North Carolina State, Cunningham now leads the nation in completed passes for 70 or more yards. In 2018, Cunningham was a run-first, dual-threat quarterback. This year, he’s been both, but his success through the air is something that should be talked about and appreciated amongst the Louisville fan base.

He threw for a career-high four touchdown passes on Saturday night. He threw zero interceptions and since his first against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, Cunningham has had at least a 60 completion percentage in six of eight games.

On Saturday he showed that he can make all the throws. Whether it was the deep bomb to Dez Fitzpatrick, the 1-yard pass to Ean Pfeifer in the red zone (it’s easy to forget how hard that can be) or the numerous shorter passes that were 100 percent on the money to Tutu Atwell.

Cunningham has been a pleasant surprise this season. It looks like we’ll be watching him at the helm for three more games this season and long after that.
