Louisville Cardinals sports fans have long been known for finding fun ways to pay homage to their beloved teams. Here we take a look at the rich sports traditions that Cards fans have come to know and love, old and new.

For many of us, like myself, being introduced to the Louisville Cardinals was a rite of passage. And there were a plethora of different ways that the introduction could have been made.

Every one of us had a first home game we attended, a first game we viewed on tv, the first time we met a player or coach, a first Spring practice, our favorite (or in some cases lucky) article of clothing, a diehard Louisville fan family member, a Senior Day poster, etc.

As a young Cardinal fan, when one participates in these functions, one thing is undoubtedly certain: the atmosphere rubs off on you like field paint on a white football jersey.

The things we see at these functions are all a part of the big experience that is being a Louisville fan. The sights, the smells, the vibes, the traditions, all of it.

So this countdown is not to say that one tradition is better than another. Instead, it serves as a vessel to pay homage to the beauty of it all.

What makes examining Louisville sports traditions so fun, in my opinion, is how there have been quite a few new ones pop up in recent years.

So while the countdown will list eight total traditions, it will separate the new ones from the old ones so we can shine a light on the masterful work we’ve done passing the torch as a fanbase from one generation to the next.
