Louisville football: How the Cards will beat Kentucky in the Governor’s Cup
Louisville will score early and score often
While Kentucky may have the 12th ranked rushing offense, when it comes to total offense, they are ranked 96th. That’s a far cry from where Louisville stands, as the 26th ranked offense in all of college football.
Louisville has scored 27 or more in every game outside of Clemson since October began. Something has to give Saturday, as Kentucky has held their opponents under 30 for 15 consecutive games now, which is the most in the NCAA.
Kentucky wants to run the football and control the clock. Louisville wants to score and score a lot. If Kentucky is successful in having long, productive drives that end in seven points, Louisville needs to make sure to avoid three and outs to make sure the defense gets the proper amount of rest between drives.
Louisville’s offense can really help their defense out if they can get a lead in this game. Since Bowden came in at QB for the Cats, they haven’t had a game where they went down by two scores early and were forced to change their offensive game plan. Louisville has the perfect team to go in front early, given their big play ability.

I think Louisville has to break that 30 point streak to get a win this Saturday. The point total is set at 51 and we are expecting a rainy Saturday in Lexington. The weather favors the ground-based Cats, but Louisville has had its fair share of rain games this season.
They’ve been able to put points on the board regardless of the weather. It’s really tough at this point to imagine this Louisville offense not having major success, given that Javian Hawkins and Tutu Atwell seem to only be getting better as the weeks go by.
If Louisville can get a two-score lead they may be able to keep it that way for the remainder of the contest. Kroger Field could get restless if the Cardinals are up and this Kentucky team can’t throw.
