How will the Cards finish the 2020 recruiting class?

Before Scott Satterfield even stepped onto the field as the head coach of Louisville football, he had things going in recruiting.

After a slow start to the 2020 class, Satterfield and his staff went on a recruiting rampage landing 20 commitments over the course of a five to six-week period, giving them a then top 25 recruiting class including the star they needed at quarterback in Chubba Purdy.

There were some disappointing losses along the way, even some to arch-rival Kentucky, but as the summer tailed off into fall and the team began putting up results on the field things changed even quicker.

Now some of the top prospects on the board who Louisville could get a sniff at earlier were banging on the door wanting to be apart of a special program.

Since then things haven’t cooled off. Players like Lovie Jenkins, Nick Malito, Christian Fitzpatrick, and Jordan Watkins saw enough on their visits to Louisville to back out of their commitments to other programs so that they can be a Cardinal.

At the conclusion of the 14-week long regular season, Louisville holds commitments from 23 players committed with the 32nd best class in the country and the sixth-best among ACC programs according to 247 Sports. Even with that being the case, Louisville still could have as many six spots available thanks to all of the transfers last season, which means there’s still the chance to climb even higher in the rankings.

Over the last few weeks of the season, Louisville continued pursuing their top targets, hosting uncommitted players like Maureese Wrenn, Greedy Vance, Jakorian Bennett, and Yaya Diaby as well as other committed prospects who could be big-time flips such as Jo’Quavious Marks, Josh Griffis, and Thomas Shrader.

This staff doesn’t rest – it’s not in their DNA. After taking a 45-13 knockout punch to the chin from Kentucky, Satterfield and his staff hit the ground running visiting their top committed players and making a few other stops to top targets along the way.

Satterfield said very early on in his tenure that he wants to get as much as 3/4 of his class signed by the Early Signing Period and that’s exactly what he’s on track to do now. Louisville very well could land several more commitments from players who will be able to provide impact right away in 2020.
