Will Louisville land any new players?

Perhaps the most-watched players in this early signing period will be the ones who have not verbally committed to Louisville yet.

Yes, it will be exciting to get to see the Kameron Wilson’s and the Christian Fitzpartrick’s of this class sign officially and get to hear the coaching staff actually talk about their new players. However, a lot of fans are interested in who else could join the fold.

Right now, Louisville is hovering right around the 28-30th range in the national recruiting rankings, but there are some big fish the Cards are still looking to reel in when they announce their commitments on Wednesday.

The Cardinals just landed a commitment from long-sought-after corner Greedy Vance, who committed over Auburn and Arizona State.

Now, most fans are looking at a few big names who have the Cardinals on their short list.

It all starts with Louisville’s biggest prospect maybe of the decade in Marcus Dumervil. The would-be legacy commit has an offer from just about every power five program, including Alabama, LSU, Oklahoma, and Clemson.

He is considered a lean towards national championship favorite LSU, but like so many others, until he signs on the dotted line, there’s a lot of reason to believe that he could find Louisville an attractive option.

Then there’s Louisville’s top JUCO prospect Yaya Diaby. Considered a near lock to start from day one, Diaby would help solidify talent, depth, and versatility along Louisville’s defensive line.

The Cardinals have to start winning in the trenches, and it starts on the recruiting trail by landing guys like Diaby, who recently received an offer from FSU (of course) and had interest from Memphis prior to that.

With players like Chubba Purdy, Josh Griffis, and Kobe Baynes (recently offered by Miami) all committed but seemingly wavering on their pledges to the Cards, Louisville still has its hands in a lot of different baskets.

This starts with linebackers Jamoi Hodge and Mason Cobb, who are both deciding between the Cards and a Big XII school.

Hodge is a hard-nosed JUCO linebacker out of Independence Community College (yes, the Last Chance U school) who would fit in somewhere between the Monty Mongomery and CJ Avery role on the 2020 squad. However, Hodge is still choosing between the Cards, TCU, and SMU.

Meanwhile, Cobb, a prospect out of Utah, is deciding between the Cards, Oklahoma State, and Arizona. Louisville was in a little later on Cobb, but he seemed to have an immediate and pleasant connection with the staff.

There’s still a ton to watch as everything unfolds over the next 48-72 hours, but I will still maintain that Louisville holding onto its current commits is the most important thing.

If the Cards come out of all the flip talk unscathed and land one more recruit, it will be a massive day for the Louisville football program.
