Louisville basketball: What we learned about Cards in loss to Kentucky

Louisville basketball rallied from an early double-digit deficit in the second half but could not complete the comeback in overtime against Kentucky.

It was one of the best games in the history of the rivalry, but third-ranked Louisville basketball ultimately fell short against the 19th-ranked Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday afternoon.

Rupp Arena was buzzing all game long and it was an extremely tough environment for Louisville to play in. The two teams battled back and forth in the first half before Kentucky opened up an 8 point lead at the break.

When they returned from the break, Kentucky went on an early run to extend the lead to 12 and it started to look as if the game was getting out of reach. Impressively, the Cards did not fold and they made a phenomenal effort to get back into the game.

They took the lead at moments down the stretch in the second half, but they couldn’t turn it into a two-possession lead.

The game went into overtime and Louisville eventually ran out of gas as Kentucky made it through with just enough left in the tank. There were a few bright spots in the 78-70 loss, which marked the third straight loss to Kentucky in the series.

With that said, there were plenty of things to be concerned about and there were plenty of things that the team needs to work on before they open 2020 with a home game against a ranked Florida State team on January 4th at 2:00 p.m…
