Scott Satterfield and the Louisville football program will need to fill as many as three to four spots before the season starts. Could a transfer be an option?

Lousiville football sits in a great place as the final signing period rolls around next month. After putting together a relatively small class in 2019, head coach Scott Satterfield and the Cardinal staff were able to get 25 players signed in the early period, including 15-plus players who have already enrolled and will take part in spring practice next month.

Now with roughly three to four scholarships available, Louisville’s staff are likely already in the process of putting together a big board of targets who could fill their final spots for 2020.

Last season we saw the staff utilize graduate-transfers to fill out the remaining holes in the roster, signing offensive linemen turned tight end Ean Pfeifer (Vanderbilt), linebacker T.J. Holl (Colgate), interior lineman T.J. McCoy (Florida), defensive end Ty Tyler (Marshall) and slot receiver Thomas Jackson (North Carolina).

With Louisville looking like a top 25 team in 2020 behind the return of 19 starters combined between the offense and defense, the coaching staff now must find players who are capable of contributing to the depth problem that plagued the Cards in 2019.

Considering Louisville is likely to compete at the top of the ACC, finding players who can play right away and provide the needed intangibles for winning is crucial. This is why looking at the transfer portal should and could be an option for Satterfield.

Any time I write these “speculatory” articles I always like to make sure I remind the audience that I am not an insider.

I do not have any connection to the program to know what the staff might be thinking or who they might be pursuing, so please do not take anything you read here as an official report. What this is, is a list of players who could be potential targets for Louisville based on need and fit.

Without further ado, here are four transfers that Louisville could pursue in 2020
