Coy Cronk – Indiana

Position: Offensive tackle

Eligible: Right away

Much like the defensive line, the offensive line is an area where Scott Satterfield has worked diligently to improve through recruiting this season. When the staff arrived at Louisville, there were roughly only eight scholarship linemen on the roster and within a matter of months that number had gotten smaller before the 2019 class enrolled.

Normally you wouldn’t think of Indiana as a hotbed for talent at the college football level, but credit has to be given to Tom Allen for the turnaround. This season Indiana was a formidable opponent, going 8-5 overall and 5-4 inside of the Big Ten, good enough for a 4th place finish.

The team’s talent was a huge reason for the uptick, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Since the season ended, long-time starting left tackle Coy Cronk has announced his intention to transfer as a graduate-transfer, instantly becoming one of the top available tackles on the market.

If you haven’t heard, Louisville will enter the 2020 season without their star left tackle, Mekhi Becton. Becton has anchored the Cardinals offensive line at 6’8, 365 pounds for the last three seasons and his absence will leave a huge hole on the left side of the line (both literally and figuratively).

Cronk is a four-year starter who allowed just15 sacks during 2,835 snaps of action and was also a team captain for the Hoosiers in 2019. Unfortunately for him, Cronk played in just four games before going down to a season-ending injury, thus allowing him to redshirt, graduate, and transfer.

At 6’5, 270-pounds Cronk has great size and power and would be a near-perfect fit on the left side of the line, or even on the right side (replacing Tyler Haycraft) in the zone scheme running attack of Louisville. With his experience, size, and leadership abilities, Cronk would be a perfect plug-n-play starter who could help the Cards continue their dominance offensively in 2020.
