Micale Cunningham looks to improve on a sensational season

The 2020 spring practices should be seen as a great opportunity for Louisville quarterback Micale Cunningham to begin working in his first full offseason as the big man on campus.

Last season, Cunningham was neck and neck with Puma Pass entering the season, but a freak knee injury sidelined him for the end of fall camp and lingered into the season.

Now, Cunningham is the clear favorite to win the job after a dynamic season that saw Louisville become one of the best offenses in the country.

Cunningham has an opportunity to step into a role as a leader and take his attributes from above average to dynamic.

Since it is apparent that Cunningham is the guy for the Cards heading into game one, look for the Louisville coaching staff to try to implement a game plan around him.

Similarly to Lamar Jackson, Cunningham’s running ability to run the football is something that Louisville offensive coordinator Dwayne Ledford and quarterbacks coach Frank Ponce can scheme for and draw up plays to make the offense even better with him in the backfield.

We saw Cunningham improve tremendously as a passer in 2019, but I think this is the year where he can become lethal in read-option sets to open up things for his other playmakers on the field even more.
