Khristian Lander or Zion Harmon? Who is the better fit for Louisville basketball?
So, who is the better fit?
While Landers would be an instant-impact stud, Harmon could have a more important overall effect on the Louisville program for years to come.
By the same token, basketball as a whole is moving away from a one through five style lineup in a traditional sense. Harmon fits more of a niche role in Louisville’s offense, whereas Lander could be used in multiple capacities.
If we are talking strictly about Louisville’s 2020-21 team its hopes to compete for an ACC title and national championship, Lander seems to be the best fit.
It’s highly likely that Lander and Jay Scrubb would only be at Louisville for a year, so the Cardinals would be looking at an exodus of players including Lander, Scrubb, Williams, and Perry, plus what likely will be one more graduate transfer.
With Harmon in the fold, Louisville has consistency. Harmon seems much less likely to bolt to the pros after one year, and he would be returning to a team looking to rebuild a year from now.
By landing Landers, Louisville has a slightly better shot at taking a stab at a big-time run next March but stands to have a more severe drop-off the year after.
Getting Harmon would soften the blow in the long run, but he doesn’t feel like a player who is primed quite yet for superstardom in the ACC.
Either way, Louisville basketball would benefit greatly from landing Harmon or Lander, and Card fans should be excited regardless of who they get.
