Ryan’s redemption

Alan: Ryan McMahon has a special night

“Hand down, McMahon down.”

It seems a little dull to predict that a player having a great day playing an opponent that he has struggled against in recent memory is “bold”, but in this case, it’s entirely appropriate.

Ryan McMahon has been bullied into sloppy turnovers and was kept virtually in check in the last two meetings with the Seminoles (averaging 5.5 ppg).

Fortunately, the Cardinals have looked solid in the past two games. In all likelihood, Florida State will scout heavily for Jordan Nwora (as do most teams), given that the junior dropped 32 points in their last meeting.

With Malik Williams now seemingly cemented into the starting lineup, he’s sure to draw some defensive help on the entry pass into the post. Occasionally Williams, when bothered with pressure, has the presence of mind to kick the ball back out to open shooters.

This should benefit MacMahon, especially if his defender collapses too far to help on the double team in the post. Look for Ryan to get an uncharacteristic amount of space against the Seminoles, which would yield a field day for the sharpshooter.

Also, keep in mind that he is averaging 10.6 points per game in his last three conference road games.
