Double down, David

Presley: David Johnson records first career double-double

It’s tough to really give a realistic, yet bold, seemingly unlikely prediction before any game.

However, if there’s a milestone that I think Cards fans could witness Monday night, I think it may be freshman point guard David Johnson getting his first career double-double.

Our partner Jacob Lane has boisterously gone on record saying that Johnson would be the next Cardinals great to record a triple-double. While I don’t find that likely during the 2020 season, I think this is a prime opportunity for this Card to have a great game across the board.

Louisville really struggled across the board at guard in their game one misstep against the Noles. It was Johnson coming off a DNP against Kentucky the game prior who shocked a lot of people snagging 6 boards and dishing out 3 assists.

Since then, Johnson’s role has only increased and his confidence is soaring.

Over the last four games- two of which Johnson started- he has averaged 10 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 5.5 assists.

Against a long Seminoles defense, the Cards will likely opt to go with a heavy dose of DJ and try to get him into the lane on mismatches where he thrives at getting shots close to the bucket.

Look for Johnson to score double-digit points and snag double-digit rebounds in his best opportunity on the national stage since his coming out party against Duke.
