Louisville basketball: Teams Cards don’t want to see in NCAA tournament first round
Yale
Win at Clemson by 10 on December 22nd
Close losses to Penn State (by 2), Oklahoma State (by 7), Harvard (by 1) and North Carolina (by 3)
The story of Yale’s season has been close losses that have been the difference between tournament bubble team and one of the best seasons in recent school history.
At this moment, it looks like the Bulldogs will have to win their conference tournament to secure a postseason bid. However, they appear poised to do so, and in doing so, would be a tough match-up for anyone that they would draw in the tournament.
Yale, like any team in 2020 who is going to make a list like this, is veteran-heavy, and they can shoot the heck out of the basketball.
Big man Paul Atkinson leads Yale in scoring, and he has become a problem upfront for Bulldogs opponents.
In their marquee games this year, Atkinson has been a key factor down low and displays a great ability to pass the ball out of the post to facilitate offense for the Bulldogs.
Veteran guards Azir Swain and Jordan Bruner lead the way in Yale’s backcourt, combining for 29 points, 12 rebounds, and nearly six assists per game.
An Ivy League team is never going to turn a bunch of heads in the tournament, but this team was in the tournament last season, they have no shortage of juniors and seniors, have excellent guard play, can get hot from deep, and they are battle-tested.
