Trey Kaufman – Combo forward

Sellersburg, IN (Four-star)

National ranking: 72

Position ranking: 16

The player that every Louisville basketball fan will know by the end of the recruiting cycle, Trey Kaufman is a 6’9,” beast who would become one of the fan favorites from day one.

To start, Kaufman is a native of the Louisville Metro area. Residing in Sellersburg, Indiana, he is only a 15-minute drive from the KFC Yum! Center.

Kaufman’s game is next-level. Though he has a long frame, he projects as a wing, who is a dynamic shooter, driver, and scorer.

WHAS-11’s Tyler Griever did a feature on Kaufman in late February, and it is evident immediately what a special person Kaufman is as well.

Kaufman is a bit quirky, hyper-intelligent, and perhaps most importantly, a natural leader.

There’s thought nationally that he’d be “staying home” by attending Indiana or Purdue, but his true home would be just 10 miles away at Louisville.

Whether or not he wants to stick this close is another story, but as far as fit, Kaufman may remind some a bit of current Cardinals star Jordan Nwora.

Kaufman seems more than willing to bang in the post, which is understandable given the size advantage he has on this level, but all signs point towards his ball-handling and perimeter game blossoming as he moves towards his senior season of high school.

He could potentially be a lethal shooter with a quicker release, and his ability to slash to the bucket projects him to compete for starting time from day one wherever he goes.

Louisville is continuing to pursue him more and more, and if the Cards can secure an official visit from Kaufman, they could be in it until the end.
