Second Round

The Cards put on a show against Georgia Tech in 2005

Remember back in the old Freedom Hall days when every time a player would take a shot from beyond the arc, the entire crowd would yell “THREEEEE!”?

That’s exactly what this game reminded me of.

If you don’t have time to sit around and watch a full game today, at least put aside a few minutes to watch this start. Menacing zone with man-to-man principles, six straight makes to start the game, and an all-around good time.

This Louisville team undoubtedly came into the tournament with a bit of a chip on its shoulder. The Cardinals were ranked in the top 5 in the country at the time, won the Conference USA Tournament, and then drew a 4-seed.

Louisville responded by crushing every team in its path, leading every second of the way in the first three games, and winning in dominant fashion.

This game was no exception, and for whatever reason, this victory over Jarrett Jack and Georgia Tech will forever reside in my memory as one the best random NCAA Tournament games of my lifetime.

I miss this squad maybe more than any in my lifetime.

Sidebar: it’s time to more formally recognize this team more than just at a timeout. Give em the halftime treatment at least.
