January 18, 2020 – David Johnson vs. Duke

Another local guy, David Johnson, is predicted to have a bright future as a Cardinal. Coming out of being a four-year starter at Trinity High School, he was a big recruit for Chris Mack. Johnson was ranked inside the top 100 recruits in 2019, but missed or was limited in minutes early in his first season as a Cardinal. Fans saw slight glimpses of what he could be, but his play stepped up late in the season. After his performance, Mack told the media,

"“I wish I would have had him game one, to start the year. He lost four months, two of those months he couldn’t do anything but ride a bike.”"

The Duke game at Cameron Indoor was a bit of a coming out party for David Johnson. UofL went to Duke and stole a victory from the then no. 3 ranked Blue Devils. Johnson scored 19 points in just 27 minutes, providing a key boost in the 79-73 win. He went 8-12 from the field, also knocking down one from deep.

Johnson really filled his stat sheet in this one. To go along with his season-high in points, he added four rebounds, seven assists, two blocks, and three steals. If you said Jordan Nwora was only going to score six points in this one at Duke, not many would say they would predict a Louisville victory. It was in part because of this performance put on by the freshman that wasn’t raddled by the Cameron Crazies.

Louisville fans were not only pleased with this performance because of the win, but also because of the future that shines bright for the local star. He will quickly become a leader and key contributor at Louisville.
