February 1, 2020 – Ryan McMahon vs North Carolina State

Dick Vitale was definitely excited about this performance. Ryan McMahon has gone through his career being the go-to guy from deep. His shot is pure and he gets fans out of their seat in the arena every time he gets a shot up. Cardinal fans have Vitale to thank for the type of excitement we have seen from McMahon, getting him in front of Rick Pitino.

One thing Vitale said about McMahon in 2018 on Twitter was to just get him 12 shots a game. This game proved him right. He got hot from deep, showing more emotion than he usually does. He scored a season-high 23 points against NC State on the first day of February en route to a 77-57 victory.

The redshirt senior went through some rough patches this year, going into this game having only five three-pointers in his previous five games. He would end that cold streak. He ended this January matchup against NC State with seven threes, six of them coming in the first half. He went 8-12 from the field, 7-10 from deep. In his normal fashion, taking the majority of his shots from behind the arc.

Just several weeks before Chris Mack decided to have McMahon come off the bench. He came in the game looking for any open shot he could get, and Louisville fans were happy when he found some. Mack told reporters,

"“No one likes going from being a starter to coming off the bench. No one likes that But he was very accepting of it. He’s all for the team.”"
