January 4, 2020 – Jordan Nwora vs Florida State

Coming into the 2019-20 season, Jordan Nwora had a lot of pressure and high hopes from Cardinal fans. He received just about every preseason accolade one could get, include being predicted to be a finalist for the ACC Player of the Year and the John R. Wooden Award.

Nwora had some incredibly exciting performances, but also disappeared at times which resulted in him falling off some of the top player lists. He scored over 30 on two occasions, one of those against Boston College and one against Florida State. Because of the level of competition and efficiency in the game, Florida State was more impressive, even in the loss.

The first game against FSU in early January, Nwora went off to score 32 points in his 38 minutes on the floor. He went 11-15 from the field and 5-6 from three. Shooting over 70% from the field in this one, he went on to add 10 rebounds to make it a double-double. Games such as these led fans to believe his NBA stock may rise, but it was disappointing not being able to see him in the tournament this season.

In this game, Florida State ended up winning 78-65 with Nwora not getting much help on the offensive end. Because of the night he had against the regular season ACC champs, it is still deserving of the top performance of the year.

Although his senior season ended early because of concerns over COVID-19, Nwora is a player that Cardinal fans hoped to see more of. He has plans to continue his career in the NBA and, with performances like this, will do just fine.
