Atlanta

Probably one of the least talked about trade options in the league is the Atlanta Hawks. That doesn’t mean, however, that a little maneuvering couldn’t land Mitchell in the ATL to form one of the most lethal backcourts in the NBA.

The Hawks are a league bottom-feeder at the moment. They are one game ahead of Cleveland for last place in the East and have the fourth-worst record in the NBA.

That doesn’t mean that Atlanta isn’t an option for Mitchell if he is being dealt by the Jazz, because the Hawks have a ton of promising pieces. To start, Trae Young (29.6 points, 9 assists) is one of the most popular young point guards in the league and is emerging as a dynamic scorer and distributor. Elsewhere in the backcourt, De’Andre Hunter and Cam Reddish are two excellent up-and-coming wings, and Clint Capela rounds out a rotation as one of the best centers in the game.

Atlanta could stand to deal someone like John Collins or Skal Labissiere, and will likely clear some cap space with Jeff Teague (1 year, $19 million) still in the fold getting minutes behind Young.

It would be perfect timing for Atlanta. Young is still in his rookie contract, and moving Teague then adding Mitchell would still leave room for one more quasi-star to enter the fold and create a fantastic rotation capable of making a playoff run right away.

The Hawks seem like a far-fetched option, but maybe the Jazz opt to move Mitchell right away in order to get the most value possible out of a situation that could sour quickly.

Young and Mitchell are good friends, both budding superstars, and would make for one of the most athletic and lethal backcourts in the league.
