Season opener at Miami – November 5, 2019

There was a lot of hype around Jordan entering the season, he was named a member of the pre-season AP All-American team, becoming the first Cardinal to receive this honor since Montrezl Harrell going into the 2014-15 season. He was also appointed ACC Preseason Player of the Year going into the season.

In the opening game of 2019-2020, it’s safe to say Nwora lived up to the hype, dropping 23 points with 12 rebounds, two assists, one block, and two rebounds – doing so rather comfortably. He led all scorers and rebounders on both sides in a game where he didn’t play nearly as much as he could’ve as the game got out of hand late.

He led the Cards to an impressive conference victory on the road, which is never a guarantee, especially in the ACC. Nwora had plenty of impressive plays in this season opener, but none bigger than his one-handed alley-oop connection from Ryan McMahon. This emphatic slam helped the Cards’ lead swell to a commanding 28 points.

After his impressive performance in the season opener, Mack was asked about Nwora’s performance and growth as a player. He said:

"“He’s really going to be circled on every scouting report. People are going to try and make their mark and coaches are going to try and take him away. I do think he tried to let the game come to him….I thought Jordan did a great job defensively, outside of a few possessions, and then offensively he’s really good.”"
