ESPN’s Football Power Index extremely high on Louisville football

Where Louisville football could slip up
Let’s face it: 10 wins is a steep task, and Louisville not reaching double-digit wins wouldn’t necessarily be disappointing. The program is on the trend upward, but Kentucky is still superior in the trenches and returns the majority of the defense from a year ago. The Cardinals will definitely not lack motivation, but it will take an extremely solid effort to defeat their rival.
Assuming they do beat the three in-state opponents, Louisville still must remain perfect outside of Clemson and Notre Dame. It is yet to be seen how good Florida State will be, but the matchup with the Seminoles and Virginia Tech will theoretically be tossups. They also travel to Virginia, where they’ve struggled since joining the ACC, dropping two of the three contests in Charlottesville.
Lack of offensive line progression or health concerns would aid in extinguishing the fire that is the Louisville offense. Cunningham had trouble staying in certain games, despite not missing too much significant time. A revolving panel of quarterbacks like last season could cost the team some games as well.
The same goes for the other side of the ball; if teams are able to march down the field with ease similar to that of last season, then Louisville may have to resort winning shootouts once again. The Cardinals will need to see a vast improvement from returning starters and could lose a game or two due to the offense not being able to keep u in scoring.
