Colby McDonald

5’10.5/200 lbs (Washington, DC)

The three-star running back from the nation’s capital recently released his top-8 on March 31st via Twitter; the Cards made the cut along with Maryland, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Boston College, Syracuse, and Michigan. The 75th-ranked player (247Sports Composite) at the position, McDonald eclipsed the 1k mark (1,4000) as a junior, to go along with 14 scores.

Here’s what McDonald told 247Sports’ Brian Dohn:

"“They have been recruiting me hard and I love the atmosphere of their games and how their coaches treat their players. I like what they have going on down there and the way they run their offense, and I have a good relationship with their running back coach (Norv McKenzie).”"

Ranked as the 964th-best prospect in the country, McDonald is a high-energy back who runs extremely wall downhill. His elusiveness and ability to find holes in the defense grant him large chunks of daylight in the secondary. He carries all of the qualities to become a feature back at the next level; allowing him to get beyond the line of scrimmage either as a ball-carrier or a pass-catcher could spell trouble for opposing defenses due to his extreme burst and strength.

Despite not being highly rated, McDonald would be a huge addition to the Louisville backfield and could compete for time right away.
