Louisville football will have two big opportunities to upset a top 5-10 ranked team in 2020. We explore how they make that happen.

The 2019 season for the Louisville football program was one that saw the Cards achieve a very high level of success a lot faster than anyone around the country (or the program) expected.

Thanks to a ton of willing players and a great new coaching staff led by head coach Scott Satterfield, a new culture was quickly adopted around the program. Strong work ethic, dedication to their craft, and fun defined the new-look program and allowed for the Cards to win football games nearly immediately.

Last season, the Cards sprung an upset on the road against a Wake Forest team that had one of the longest winning streaks in the country and then defeated a Virginia team that dominated the ACC Coastal division.

Though Louisville fell short, they pulled off a massive comeback at Florida State and were within striking distance late against Clemson and Notre Dame.

Louisville has the firepower to hang with every team in the country, and in years past they have proven that they can beat the big-name teams. Think beating No. 2 Florida State in 2016, winning on the road at Notre Dame in 2014, or upsetting No. 3 Florida in the 2013 Sugar Bowl.

Now, Louisville will have to overcome the odds if they want to work towards the upper echelon of college football in 2020 in beyond.

This season will present at least two great opportunities to beat a top 10 squad, and perhaps more. Let’s take a look at Louisville’s best chances to spring a program-defining upset in 2020.
