TJ Quinn – S

Another legacy commitment you say? I’m all for it especially when you’re capable of landing players like Jaraye Williams and top safety target, TJ Quinn. You may recognize the last name, as Quinn’s pops, Terry Quinn, suited up for the Cards in 37 games from ’91 to ’94 as both a running back and defensive back.

Much like his father, Quinn is a standout player who will play on the defensive side of the ball as a safety at the collegiate level. 247 Sports ranks the Valdosta, GA product as the nation’s 84th best safety and the 72nd best player in the state of Georgia.

Louisville just recently extended a scholarship offer to Quinn and it hasn’t taken long for them to jump to the front of the line ahead of schools that have been recruiting the safety for quite some time, including NC State, Virginia Tech, Boston College, and Kentucky.

Quinn talked with Jody Demling of Cardinal Authority after receiving an offer from his Dad’s alma mater, saying:

“It’s special. We always watched Louisville. It’s special because I would have a chance to play there just like he did and that would be nice.”

Even with two safeties already in the fold for 2021 in four-star Ben Perry and three-star Braelyn Oliver, the Cards still believe they need more talent to shore up a back end that finished ranked 79th in the nation in passing yards allowed in 2019, especially with Perry likely to play in the CARD role once he arrives on campus.

Quinn is a versatile safety who will be capable of playing both positions for back ends coach ShaDon Brown and will bring speed, athleticism, sound tackling, and great range to a group that desperately needs more help.

The reason Quinn makes the list, even after only receiving an offer just three weeks ago, is that he’s been beginning to trend to Louisville much like Huggins-Bruce.

The two crystal ball projections that were logged for Quinn come from Cardinal Authority’s Jody Demling and Michael McCammon, which gives you hope that they know something no one else does. There are still crystal ball picks for Virginia Tech from Lead Recruiting Analyst Steve Wiltfong, which show the recruiting battle isn’t over yet.

Quinn recently talked to Colorado 247 Sports affiliate BuffStampede, where he mentioned having recently done a virtual visit with Louisville’s staff, which means that we could be inching closer to a commitment. There’s still work to be done, but Louisville’s got to feel good about landing their second legacy commit of the ’21 class.
