If MLB returns watch for these former Louisville baseball stars.
There is still a big question of whether or not the MLB will return for the 2020 season. It has become an issue of money rather than problems surrounding the coronavirus. The owners and the union continue to argue over the amount of money the players should make in a shortened season. But if the season does return, there are several former Louisville baseball stars that are set for a big year.
Dan McDonnell has seen plenty of talent come through the Louisville baseball program during his tenure as head coach. With several trips to the college world series, he has created one of the premier college baseball programs in the country. There are a number of alumni that have seen success at the next level.
In McDonell’s 13 seasons as head coach of UofL, he has had 84 players selected in the MLB draft, 80 of those signing professional contracts. He has accumulated one National Player of the Year, 38 All-Americans, 98 all-conference selections, seven conference Pitchers of the Year, four conference Players of the Year and one conference Freshman of the Year.
With McDonnell as head coach, year after year there are more Cardinals that enter the MLB. It’s become fun for UofL fans to follow several talents through the minors to see if they make it to their major league debut. A number of players have done so and are a large part of their club’s success.
Here are three Cardinals to watch if the 2020 season ever gets underway.
