Louisville baseball: 3 former Cards to watch when/if MLB returns

Adam Engel – Centerfielder
2019 stats: 89 games played, 55 hits, 6 home runs, .242 BA, .304 OBP
The Chicago White Sox outfielder, Adam Engel, was drafted in the 2013 MLB Draft. He was selected in the 19th round, 573rd overall pick. He had his time in the minors and made his debut in May of 2017.
In his time with the Cardinals, he had a number of accolades including 2013 Third Team All-BIG EAST, 2013 Team Captain, and 2012 Second Team All-BIG EAST. He was ranked third nationally in stolen bases, creating the nickname and his current twitter handle “Man of Steal”.
“He’s been working tirelessly to be able to make better contact, more contact, to make some things happen,” said White Sox director of player development Chris Getz. “When he does reach first base, he has an opportunity now to impact the game on the base paths because of speed that he brings to the table and the fear that he puts on the defense, and certainly on the pitchers.”
Because of that speed, he has the ability to make some spectacular plays in the outfield. He won’t be one of the first ones mentioned when discussing the White Sox roster, but his name continues to grow as he improves his game.
Last season, he had 227 at-bats hitting .242. This shows the improvements with a career average of .215. In 2020, he will look to continue making strides as a better all-around player and become a major piece of the south side club.
