Ahmari Huggins-Bruce – WR

5’10, 163-pounds – Dillon, SC

National ranking: 548

Position ranking: 92

Louisville football has had what felt like 20-plus receivers on the roster since Bobby Petrino took over way back in 2014. That left Scott Satterfield and company a plethora of dangerous wide receivers within their disposal, and since taking over they’ve even added several more from the class of 2020.

In 2021, Louisville is once again looking to take multiple receivers and for quite some time now Ahmari Huggins-Bruce has been the top player on the board. At 5’10, 163-pounds Huggins-Bruce is the slighter side, at least compared to Demetrius Cannon, but what he brings to the table is what the staff values most; true speed.

When you put on the tape, it’s not hard to see why AHB has been the top guy at the receiver position for the Louisville football staff. Much like current star receiver Tutu Atwell, Huggins-Bruce primarily lines up in the slot where he has already become elite at using his speed to create separation. He’s also very much like Atwell in the fact that he doesn’t have to just line up inside to be dangerous; in fact, he’s more than capable of playing outside and winning battles against bigger, stronger corners.

Huggins-Bruce has had a special couple of seasons playing for Dillon High School, combining for 102 receptions, 1,907 receiving yards, and 23 touchdowns as a sophomore and junior. That resulted in his recruitment blowing up, and now by all accounts, we’re set for a tight race up until the very end which is currently slated to be July 2nd.

The recruitment of Huggins-Bruce continues to be topsy-turvey, as Virginia Tech looked like the team to beat for some time until they landed commitments from multiple players at the receiver allowing for Louisville to become the school to beat. Now as we head down the backstretch it could be Virginia Tech who sneaks back in. There’s still time for things to change (or not, depending on who is truly leading) and with what we’ve seen all summer I expect the Louisville staff to be able to close strong.
