Louisville basketball: 5 players you probably forgot were Cards
By Jacob Lane
Do you remember these five Louisville basketball players?
During these summer months coming up with content can be a bit of a love/hate relationship. There are times as a writer where there is plenty of news and notes to react to from the Louisville football and Louisville basketball programs, and there are others where there is not. We’re currently in the latter of the “sports purgatory” (which should soon be ending), and because of that we’ll pretty much talk about anything.
When scrolling Twitter a few months ago I happened to stumble across a tweet that pictured Scott Pollard (a very memorable looking former NBA player) that read “Name this player, wrong answer only.”
That tweet took off and before long there were hundreds of others from schools, blogs, players, etc. and the concept began to trend. As I sat at home thinking about this Scott Pollard picture, a random former Louisville basketball player from the early 2000’s quickly came to mind. A quick google search produced the photo I needed to post my own version.
From there an idea was born. Who are some of the most memorable, forgettable players?
In other words, out of the hundreds and hundreds of players we’ve seen how many do you truly remember? As I’ve written about numerous times, my fandom started early in the Rick Pitino era, and up until Chris Mack took over in 2018 it was all I knew as a Cardinal fan.
Through that era Pitino produced a ton of great to elite players. Some won championships. Some were drafted highly. Others were key role players or important pieces on Final Four teams. In the same breath, there were a lot of duds.
Thankfully there were more hits than misses over 16 misses, but as you might imagine, there were some promising players who never quite peaked or became what we expected them to.
So, who are the most memorable, forgettable players from the Pitino era?
