(Most) people are willing to wear masks for sports

A lot has been made of Kentucky and other states implementing public mask requirements. Many citizens are hesitant or downright negligent in their mask-wearing compliance.

Regardless of where you stand on the mask “debate,” or how you feel about having to wear masks in public, for quite some time, sports are going to mandate that fans wear them in order to attend games.

Shockingly enough, among those in attendance on Sunday, the vast majority stayed completely in compliance with the rules. This was despite extremely hot and humid weather and despite a lot of standing in the Louisville City Coopers supporters section, and a lot of walking around to check out the new stadium or grab a beverage on the party deck (on brand, I know).

This is a good sign for sports in Louisville moving forward. Louisville City FC was somewhat of a trailblazer in getting the show on the road, and thanks to the new digs, the club is going to host another 7 games over the course of the next few weeks.

The state of Kentucky as a whole has been a mixed bag as far as complying with the mask guidelines is concerned, as evidenced by this video from Florence, Kentucky.

(Definite earmuffs warning for the kids).

But, for Louisville City fans, the sacrifice was more than worth it to get to see their team.

Louisville football is going to be on a much larger scale, but if this first game is any indication of mask compliance city-wide, Cards fans should be optimistic.
