Adonis Boone – Offensive tackle (Jr.)

When star left tackle Mekhi Becton went down last season there was a lot of concern as to whether the offensive line would take a big step back, thus leading to the offense struggling to protect and keep their impressive run game going.

Thankfully, that wasn’t the case as sophomore Adonis Boone stepped into the role and played well against North Carolina State in what would be a big win for the Cards. Once again when Becton was out, this time against Mississippi State in the bowl game, Boone stepped up big once again helping the Cards pull out a big-time victory.

Now heading into the 2020 season, Boone has been just about penciled in as the team’s starting left tackle and will be an extremely important piece to the team and their chances of building on last season’s success. Boone without question proved he deserved to have the left tackle role, but he was certainly going to need spring practice, summer workouts, and fall camp to cement that status.

Now without that and potentially a season, there’s a chance that with more time the younger players and incoming group of freshmen could be at a level where they can compete and potentially take that role. Renato Brown, Tim Lawson, and Kobe Baynes are all guys who are viewed as having the potential to be future starters.

Boone is only a junior so it’s likely he’d be back should the season be canceled or postponed, but more time for younger players recruited by the staff means the pressure would be higher than normal.
