Louisville football: Three reasons Cards could benefit from spring season
A chance to play a full schedule, potentially with fans
Finally, the season being moved back to the spring would give fans an opportunity to see the schedule in full.
We aren’t 100 percent sure what the 2020 season would look like if things proceeded in the fall, but we do know that there would be a shortened season. Non-conference games have already been called off, and it appears conferences are deliberating on how to divide up games at the moment.
Regardless of if there are games added to beef up the schedule, Louisville football fans already know that it’s probably super unlikely that the Cardinals get to play the Governor’s Cup against Kentucky.
It also seems highly unlikely that there’s no postseason in 2020 as things stand. If games are going to be conference only, there’s no way to determine an eventual national champion.
With a move to the spring, that would be possible again. Schedules could be closer to what was initially planned, teams could play cross-conference rivals, and the postseason could go on.
Waiting a few months could be a small price to pay. Who knows? Perhaps a spring season could lead to more fans in the stands. Maybe there’s some sort of vaccine by that point. Maybe fans wouldn’t have to wear masks.
Those could all be real possibilities.
Plus, there’s an added bonus of finishing the season in the spring. Louisville would start out during cold weather season, but the final games of the year could wind up being some of the better weather games in Cardinals football history.
Things might feel a little gloomy right now, but there are a lot of positives on the horizon for Louisville football.
