7. Brock Travelstead nails a game-winner this season

Lost in the shuffle of the excitement for every college football team is the fact that kickers have a massive impact on the outcome of a season.

It’s easy to overlook, but when a college team is searching for answers on special teams, you begin to realize just how vital of a role a kicker truly plays.

That was seen firsthand last season when veteran kicker Blanton Creque suffered a season-ending injury and the Cardinals were forced to go to a back-up walk-on kicker in some tough situations. Creque had already hit a game winning field goal last season when he went down with a torn ACL, and while backup Ryan Chalifoux filled in admirably (producing the play of the year by all accounts) Louisville wasn’t able to rely on automatic points when the field goal team trotted out.

That’s why, in 2020, it will be important for Louisville to establish consistency with their next kicking prodigy, All-American Brock Travelstead. The true freshman out of Acworth, Georgia figured to be the starter in waiting as Louisville’s next kicker.

Travelstead was 28-for-35 on field goals and 128-for-130 on PAT’s during his career at North Paulding high school and earned All-American honors last season.

He participated in the Army All-American game earlier this year, and had a fantastic showing, connecting on a 45-yard field goal as one of his highlights.

Travelstead is not going to be a huge talking point for the rest of this offseason, but he is an integral part of the 2020 squad. I think that the true freshman wins the starting job and shows why he was worthy of a scholarship offer early on.
