Much of the hype in this year’s class centers around the offensive side of the ball. Moreover, the receiving corps got even more reinforcements to support an already stellar depth chart at the position.

Perhaps the names we were most excited about hearing they signed on the dotted line were Christian Fitzpatrick and Jordan Watkins- and with good reason.

Fitzpatrick, brother of Louisville football standout receiver Dez Fitzpatrick, is a hard-nosed go-up-and-get-it type of receiver, sacrificing himself in jump ball situations. If there is one thing the family name has exuded to this point, it’s toughness. There’s plenty of that to go around in Christian’s tool kit.

Watkins was once locked in at the University of Kentucky, but flipped to his hometown school, much to the delight of the coaching staff and fanbase.

Another tough young player, Watkins brings elite separation tactics to the table. His choppy footwork and ability to completely change direction with a single foot plant has turned heads in the mere month and a half he has been on campus.

With Tutu Atwell and Dez Fitzpatrick already primed for leading roles on this year’s team, where could the youth of the receiving depth chart line up? I think you’ll see both Watkins and Chris Fitzpatrick compete for openings through the season, as there is some uncertainty out wide following the graduation of Seth Dawkins.

Expect one of, if not both, of these rising freshmen to line up as a starter in at least three games this season. If I were an oddsmaker, I’d say it will happen in three of the weaker matchups on the schedule this year.
