Lamar Jackson ready for 2020 season as “the new bubble boy”‘
By Jacob Lane
Lamar Jackson provides a very in-depth update on life post quarantine.
An ongoing pandemic is stopping the NFL from officially kicking off the 2020-21 season, as players across the league began officially reporting to their respective training camps this week. The reigning NFL MVP, Lamar Jackson, arrived in Baltimore on Tuesday, doing so with some major drip (as expected) and far more publicity and talk surrounding him, especially after being named the Madden ’21 cover athlete.
With all eyes on the third year pro, who is coming off one of the best statistical seasons in NFL history, Jackson will be looking to prove that his MVP award winning season was not a fluke. The list of haters remains long, as always, but many want to see how Jackson bounces back following the team’s disappointing loss to the Titans.
Throwback: Another Day, Another Half-Baked Analysis on Lamar Jackson
Jackson made waves a few weeks ago appearing on Complex’s “Load Management” Podcast, making some interesting comments about why things went south against the Titans. Jackson said:
"“That’s what happened in the playoffs, and we end up losing to the team people had us favored over. It’s any given Sunday. You can’t underestimate no team, no opponent and that’s what we did.”"
Jackson knows that one, as the quarterback and leader of the team he sets the tone for how his squad approaches big games, and two, if there is another slip up in the playoffs the narrative on his ability to win big games will be questioned endlessly.
With a suspended off season that forced teams to do everything virtual, the Ravens coaching staff will get their first real opportunity to work with Jackson and the rest of the roster. The offense will return the majority of their starters, highlighted by running back Mark Ingram and receiver Hollywood Brown, and should be able to pick up right where they left on last season (prior to the loss to the Titans).
Before the Ravens hit the field, Jackson spoke with local media for the first time and had provided an update on his summer and how he plans to stay COVID free throughout the season. Jackson said:
“I don’t really be with no one outside of my guys here. … All the tests came back negative. I didn’t have any Corona – not one tick in me. I’ve been doing a great job quarantining and I’m gonna keep it that way. I’m the new bubble boy.”

Jackson was also asked several other questions relating to offseason matters, including Patrick Mahomes giant contract, jumping over a jet ski, and working out with Antonio Brown – a player he’d like to see the Ravens sign.
He would of course go on to talk about the offseason and how he’s been working to improve on last season, specifically mentioning his desire to improve down the field passing and out-breaking routes.
The comparisons to Mahomes won’t stop, especially until Jackson is able to win a Super Bowl. That’s something the Ravens could very well accomplish this season, assuming that the season is able to be played out that far during the pandemic.
Until then, Jackson is going to continue doing his best to stay compliant to social distance guidelines.
”We’ve got hand sanitizer everywhere. We doing our thing here.”
