Week 3: at Pittsburgh

Date: 9/26

Like Miami, Pittsburgh wasn’t supposed to be on the 2020 Louisville football schedule but now with the reshuffle the Cards will travel to Pittsburgh for the first time since taking a 34-45 L in 2015.

Taking out NC State and adding Pittsburgh makes the Cards’ schedule a little more challenging as the Panthers could find themselves as a top 25 ranked team this season thanks to a stacked defense and an emerging quarterback in Kenny Pickett. For the first time in a long time, Pittsburgh will have an offense capable of not only running the football at a high level but moving the ball through the air via big plays thanks to Manning Award Watch List nominee, Kenny Pickett.

Miami’s defense will be a big challenge, but at this point in the season this will easily be the most difficult obstacle the Cards will have faced at this point. Behind Paris Ford, Patrick Jones II, and Jalen Twyman, Pat Narduzzi will have one of his best defenses since taking over and an offense that could be even better than the one that produced nearly 3,500 yards a year ago.

This will absolutely be a tough challenge for Louisville and don’t let anyone tell you differently. This will be a matchup that tests the improvement of quarterback Micale Cunningham and his ability to throw against a high-powered secondary.

Louisville will have to utilize the sidelines in the passing game, something they struggled to do in 2019, in addition to establishing the run against a top 15 defense. I  see this game going down to the wire with the Cards winning by a nose.

Score: Louisville 31, Pittsburgh 30

Record: 3-0 (2-0)
