No. 11: Adonis Boone – Left tackle

Junior

  • 2019 stats: 2 starts
  • 2019 BRL ranking: Unranked

One of the massively important transitions for Louisville football in 2020 will be how the Cardinals handle the loss of first round NFL draft pick Mekhi Becton.

The “Big Ticket” didn’t allow a single sack last season and graded out as one of the best players on the team. He was a dependable mountain at left tackle that will be virtually impossible to replace.

However, the man tasked with replacing Becton in the two games that he missed in 2019 was Adonis Boone. Here’s a look at his accomplishments last season in place of Becton, via GoCards.com:

  • Saw action against Eastern Kentucky
  • Played 74 snaps at guard and graded out at 77% against Boston College
  • Graded at 70% in 30 snaps at Wake Forest
  • Made his first start at left tackle at NC State, grading out at 77% with four knockdowns
  • Graded at 88% in 17 snaps against Syracuse
  • Made the start in the Music City Bowl win over Mississippi State and helped the Cardinals gain over 500 yards of total offense.

The Cardinals bring in massive left tackle Trevor Reid as well, but given that Boone has experience in Louisville’s system, having the junior get off t a solid start is going to be critical to offensive success this season.

Louisville figures to be one of the best offenses in the country in 2020, but that will not be possible if a guy like Boone doesn’t step up in a major way.
