No. 7: Jared Goldwire – Defensive tackle

Senior

  • 2019 stats: 5 starts, 22 tackles, 14 solo, 4 tackles for loss, 2 sacks
  • 2019 BRL ranking: Unranked

Louisville football was able to get in seven practices before the coronavirus pandemic shut it down. Defensive coordinator Bryan Brown said that Jared Goldwire was the man on defense that made the biggest improvements.

"“I say this until I’m blue in the face, Jared Goldwire was a different human being these seven practices this spring. I joked with him after a couple of practices, ‘When is the old Jared going to show up’ because this guy was literally different. He was a different animal.”"

Goldwire was a solid addition as a JUCO transfer last season, but he only cut his teeth on defense playing behind veteran tackle G.G. Robison.

When we asked Robinson about Goldwire and what he expects and what Louisville fans can expect as he steps into the defensive tackle spot, he had nothing but positive things to say.

"“Goldwire is going to have no problem stepping up this year,” said Robinson. “He flashed last year and made some good plays here and there but this year I expect a lot more of that. He just needs to be consistent and I’m sure that comes with knowing you are the guy now. I expect big times out of him next year.”"

With more snaps in 2020, along with a much more talented defensive front with the additions of guys like Henry Bryant, Ja’Darien Boykin, Yaya Diaby, and several others, expect Goldwire to develop into one of the most consistent and productive players on the Cardinals defensive line.
