Preseason media guide depth charts can often time be fools gold when they released to the general public, leading up to the start of a season. When Louisville football’s depth chart was released last week, it was no shock to see graduate transfer Cam DeGeorge listed as the backup at right tackle – considering he just arrived to Louisville not long ago.

Renato Brown was the listed starter and having gone through the abbreviated spring practices in that role gives him a leg up on DeGeorge and others who will compete for the position, but by no means does it guarantee he’s the day one starter.

Every coach who has spoken on Brown’s performance in spring has had positive things to say and there’s a lot to be excited about both in the short-term and long-term. However, when the dust settles and the season truly gets going it’s DeGeorge I expect to see out there at right tackle as the team’s full-time starter.

Brown will likely play quite a bit at both tackle and guard this season, but it will be the UConn transfer and long-time starter who will be relied upon to match or surpass the level of intensity and physicality that Tyler Haycraft played with during his one season at starter at right tackle.

More times than I could count last season, Haycraft could be seen in the back end of plays, literally pushing his man out of the picture of my television. He was a violent lineman who enjoyed the physicality of blocking, doing so willingly, and at a high level.

DeGeorge started in 33 games over three years at UConn and is a proven commodity who has the ability to play both guard and tackle. In the official statement of his transfer, Scott Satterfield said:

"“We are thrilled to add an experienced offensive lineman in Cameron DeGeorge. We lost a pair of starters from last year’s team, and to be able to land a player with the experience that Cameron has will greatly strengthen our offensive line and our team. He has played in a great conference and has over 30 career starts. We are definitely excited to be adding a player with that type of talent.”"

It’s important that above all else this season that DeGeorge brings intensity and leadership to an offensive line group that is young (and deep) and that will be replacing two key starters.
