The Big Red Louie Podcast is back talking Louisville football & basketball recruiting.

  • How Louisville football has used the pandemic to build its incredible 2021 class
  • Who’s left on the board for Scott Satterfield? A few new names have emerged.
  • Louisville basketball lost their top recruit but the show goes on. Who is on the board?

In today’s world, it’s crazy how much can change in one single month. Its been nearly 30 days since we last recorded an episode of the Big Red Louie Podcast, and in that time a ton has happened when it comes to recruiting for both the Louisville football and Louisville basketball programs.

Myself and Presley Meyer were joined by Dalton Pence, who closely covers Louisville recruiting for both Big Red Louie and CSZ, hoping to get some updates on where things stand for Chris Mack and Scott Satterfield after a busy spring and summer.

Recruiting is a different animal, especially during a pandemic, but as Dalton pointed out each staff has done an incredible job of building relationships that go beyond sports and its led to a ton of success across the board.

We broke down each sport, here’s an update of what we discussed.

Louisville football recruiting update

Since landing a commitment from quarterback TJ Lewis back on August 1st, all has been quiet on the recruiting front for Louisville football.

Part of that has to do with the fact that the season is set to kick off in less than a month, but after missing out on top prospect Prince Kollie, the recruiting board for the Cards has been reset. As Dalton pointed out, just two spots remain and because of what is already locked in the staff believes they can be picky about who they take.

So what positions?

Dalton hinted there are two positions that will be the primary focus of the final recruiting spurt, one on each side of the ball. A few names seemed to have emerged as potential targets, a few of which Dalton wrote about last week.

We also break down which of the players already committed in the 2021 class we believe isn’t getting enough love, while also looking ahead to who from the 2020 class could be in line to produce the most this season for the Cards.

Louisville seems to be in no rush, and that’s a good thing.

Louisville basketball recruiting update

Things remain mostly positive on the Louisville basketball recruiting front, despite Chris Mack  recently losing his top rated commit in the class of 2021, Bryce Hopkins.

As we discussed during the podcast, there’s a lot of reason to be excited about the class Mack has put together but losing Hopkins hurts – especially if he winds up in Lexington. As Dalton pointed out, the biggest need in the class now is in the front court, not at the wing position.

After landing Eric Van Der Hejiden, Mack has solidified the wing position and now all the work remaining focuses in the front court. With two spots remaining it’s not out of the question that Louisville goes after two bigs, which according to Dalton is a spot where things look promising.

We discussed two names that stand out, and two others that could be options but it will overcome beating blue blood programs.

More spots could open after the completion of the 2020-21 season, but for now, Mack has plenty of targets on the board to continue pushing his 12th ranked class up the rankings.

Next. 5 players you probably forgot from the Rick Pitino era. dark

You  can find all of these updates + more in Episode 47 of the Big Red Louie Podcast which is available anywhere you get your podcasts. Recruiting has been quiet for a weeks now, but I don’t anticipate that to be the case over the coming weeks.
