6 pm: 2016 vs Florida State – “The College Gameday Lamar party”

It’s not that often that Louisville hosts a top 5 team. In fact, one of the few teams that have come to town to face the Cards were, in fact, the Seminoles.

In 2002, Louisville shocked the world when they upset no. 4 FSU in the pouring rain. Goalposts came down and everything. It was insane.

However, the game on September 17, 2016 had even more spice to it than the one in ‘02. This time, the Cards were ranked respectably at no. 10 The Noles were sitting pretty at 2nd in the nation, and ESPN’s College Gameday was in town for the whole thing.

The only home game of the Lamar Jackson Day marathon was a gorgeous day weather-wise. Hell, even Lee Corso put on the Cardinal head when the ESPN analysts were making their picks for who would win. What transpired will live in Louisville sports folklore until the end of time.

The Jackson-led Cardinals completely dismantled FSU 63-20 as Lamar went sicko mode, accounting for 5 TD’s while throwing for 216 yards and rushing for 146 yards. A historic day that cemented him into the Heisman conversation.
