Donovan Mitchell’s top 5 moments from the NBA Bubble
By Brett Siegel
No. 5: August 3rd, 2020 – 30-Point Game vs LeBron & 5,000 Career Points:
In his first two games in the NBA Bubble, Donovan Mitchell had scored 20 and 13 points in back-to-back games heading into a match-up with LeBron James and the Lakers. After two lackluster performances, Mitchell rose to the occasion when playing the best team in the Western Conference, scoring 33 points (9-22 FG, 4-10 3PT FG), 10 of which came in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough to take down the Lakers.
In this game, we saw Mitchell look comfortable shooting for the first time since the NBA restart. He notched his 19th 30-plus point game of the season and added on to his 5,000 career points he achieved in their previous game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Mitchell became the third-fastest active NBA player to score 5,000 career points according to Elias Sports Bureau by doing it in just 221 games joining LeBron James (197 games) and Kevin Durant (205 games).
Anytime your name is being mentioned with LeBron James and Kevin Durant, two likely unanimous future Hall of Famers, it is definitely an honor. Along with the rest of his moments and achievements in the NBA Bubble, Donovan Mitchell set himself up not only to become the face of the Utah Jazz, but if he continues breaking records and getting better, Mitchell could end up as one of the best players to ever play in the Utah Jazz organization.
It is unfortunate that Mitchell and the Jazz fell to the Lakers in a game where Spida was spectacular, but there were a lot of positives to take away for him in this game and the confidence he gained from this game alone set the pace for his play ahead.
